Using SGAI to deliver and play ads with flexibility and scale

Thanks for writing this and passing along this new terminology of SGAI (at least new to me.)

Thanks for writing this and passing along this new terminology of SGAI (at least new to me.) Under the hood, SGAI is using HLS Interstitials, correct? (At least I believe that would make sense with what I understand of Disney's architecture.) The other major benefit that I don't think was mentioned here is that start-up time can be drastically improved from SSAI. Essentially, acting in the same way as CSAI with ad resolution happening near the time of the ad break itself.

An Open Letter to the Leaders Who Come After Me

October 1, 2022 It’s a lazy, chilly Saturday morning. The house is still and I’m happy to have a quiet moment to reflect. Even on this weekend morning, I participated in several work conversations about ongoing issues and strategic questions with implications on the team’s future work and direction. …

A couple practical tips — I recently had a couple of coding mentoring sessions on the same day about the same topic — frustration. Here are some of the specific questions that I heard: How do I deal with frustration? Is there a way to avoid it? Do I have any advice for people experiencing…

Break the Meeting Addiction Cycle

How Asynchronous is the Way of the Future — We have a meeting addiction. However, I have a suggestion on how to break the cycle. A quick story for context… Over the course of the pandemic my team has gone quickly from almost 100% co-located to dispersed all over the US. We have hired, moved, and merged our way…

Stop Using Microservices. Build Monoliths Instead.

This is interesting in that it so surprising to me.

This is interesting in that it so surprising to me. However, the major win I see for microservices vs monoliths is not addressed in your article. The major problem with monoliths is how hard they can be to replace / refactor down the road. Any changes to a monolith system…

Is Work Destroying your Brain?

The long term effects of constant context switching — Work was destroying my brain. Seriously. I’m not talking about work being mind-numbingly boring — if anything my job is very demanding on brainpower. Nor am I talking about the well-documented productivity losses associated with context switching. I’m talking about my belief that, over time, the demands of my job…

What happened to Entry-Level jobs?

The Plight of Junior Developers — My first real job as a coder came in the Summer of 2000. I was still in college at Georgia Tech at the time and I worked some odd jobs to pay bills. One night, I was simultaneously working the door at a nightclub in Atlanta and reading a math…
